Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is one of the most important and appreciated music institutions in Europe. Since 2014, a new opera house called Opera di Firenze has been the main venue for most of the performances of Maggio. The theater was designed to host the most important operas and concerts.
Florence has an extraordinary music tradition that dates back to the Renaissance. At that time, the Medici family considered music as extremely important, as a powerful expression of joy and pleasure.
“Maggio” means “May”. Indeed, the most important performances at Opera di Firenze are scheduled around the month of May, where the Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is held . It is one of the most ancient festivals after Salzburg and features operas and concerts, every year with internationally renowned artists. The Festival has become one of the most important music events in Italy and Europe, also thanks to the precious cooperation of Maestro Zubin Mehta and the ancient tradition of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
However, May is not the only good month to visit Florence and attend an opera or a concert. In fact, the Maggio proposes high-quality performances throughout the year: there is always a good reason to come to Florence – cradle of the Renaissance – and enrich your travel experience with an opera or a concert ticket.
