Ravenna Festival was born in 1990 when the city chooses Cristina Mazzavillani Muti, today Honorary President, in order to organize a Festival that combines love for Opera and for Dante Alighieri. From its foundation the Festival has involved the most important performers and usually has one of the most famous and talented conductors of our time on its stage: Riccardo Muti, husband of the Honorary President.
Since 2012 Ravenna Festival has proposed the Trilogia d’Autunno (Autumn Trilogy) with excellent artists and amazing performances on the stage of Teatro Alighieri.
Traditionally the programme of the Autumn Trilogy is full of references to Dante Alighieri. The great poet lived the last three years of his life right in Ravenna, where he finished the last chapter of the Divine Comedy. You can still find his footsteps in the so called “Silence Zone” where his grave is located.
