It was Maria Theresa from Austria who wanted to give life to the Scala and, in 1776, she had it built. The Theatre is named after the church Santa Maria alla Scala, that rose up exactly where today we can admire the theatre.
It has always hosted the greatest artists and its tradition of excellence continues still today thanks to prominent personalities and important artists, who perform at the Scala Theatre with sublime virtuosity. The most renowned artists in the world have performed on the stage of the Scala and people from the all over the world com to Scala Theatre to enjoy their performances.
